The Prime Minister, Adriano Maleiane, defended today in parliament that life is returning to normality in the districts affected by armed attacks in Cabo Delgado province, despite new waves of violence.
"In relation to actions to combat terrorism, the Defense and Security Forces, in coordination with the forces of SADC [Southern African Development Community] and Rwanda, are registering progress that is allowing the return of the population to their areas of origin, as well as the gradual normalization of life in the affected areas," Maleiane said quoted by Lusa.
The leader was speaking in the Assembly of the Republic, in the introductory speech of the session of questions to the Government about the fight against terrorism in the country.
Maleiane said before the deputies that 1,569 state employees have returned to work, allowing the reinstatement of public administration services in several districts.
Medium-voltage power lines at substations destroyed by insurgents were repaired and electricity supplies were partially restored in the six districts hardest hit by the armed violence, he continued.
The prime minister also pointed to the restoration of bridges and roads, as well as the distribution of agricultural production equipment, as proof that security has been restored in the areas previously plagued by the action of armed groups.
Despite the liberation of the gas projects area, Maleiane did not mention new waves of attacks in the south of the province and in Nampula since June, causing several deaths, new waves of displaced people and disruptions in the operation of graphite and ruby mines.
Village encroachment has also been prevalent in the districts of Macomia and Muidumbe.
Cabo Delgado province has been the scene of an armed insurgency since 2017 with some attacks claimed by the extremist group Islamic State.
