Companies in Cabo Delgado Province are asking the government to intercede with creditor institutions for total forgiveness of tax debt, since many companies were affected by the terrorist actions.
The request was made, on Friday afternoon, in the city of Pemba, to the Prime Minister, in a meeting with the Provincial Business Council.
Data presented by Muamudo Irage, resident of that economic organization, point out that a little over 4500 business units have been severely affected and with owners finding themselves decapitalized.
"In the areas affected by terrorism, companies stopped fulfilling their tax obligations because they no longer had a way to carry out their activities," said Muamudo Irage quoted by RM.
On the other hand, "they did not declare bankruptcy and today they want to resume their activities. We suggest that V EXcia grant total forgiveness of tax debt and as a way of encouragement reduce taxes in the period 2023/2026," he added.
For his part, the Prime Minister, Adriano Maleiane, recommended the business class not to see the bank as the only source of financing.
He saluted the economic agents of Cabo Delgado province for their resilience in the face of adversity.
"You are heroes because a functioning company is doing its utmost and it is our duty as a state, in what we have to do, not to make that effort of yours, the situation, worse. You guys have not stood still. I went to see Palma now and commerce is moving and things are happening," he said.
