Cape Delegate: EU approves €15 million to support military mission

The European Union (EU) Political and Security Committee (PSC) today approved €15 million to support the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Military Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM).

AThe money was approved after the Council endorsed in April a general support program for the African Union between 2022 and 2024 under the European Peace Facility.

A statement quoted by Lusa said that the money will be used to finance SAMIM's field fortifications and storage containers, medical equipment, vehicles and boats, as well as technological devices.

This completes 89 million Euros of funding for the Armed and Defense Forces of Mozambique to equip the units that are trained by the EU mission in the country.

The EU's chief diplomat, Josep Borrell, starts today a two-day visit to Mozambique, where he will meet with the President, Filipe Nyusi, and deliver non-warlike equipment to support the anti-terrorist fight in Cabo Delgado.
