Excess banana leads producers to abandon the cultivation of the crop

The unsustainability of the banana crop is leading more than two thousand producers in the locality of Munguine, in the district of Manhiça, Maputo province, to abandon the cultivation of the crop.

Growers say they are experiencing significant losses of bananas and other crops, according to Radio Mozambique.

With this, producers are opting to grow sugar cane, a crop whose yield does not meet their needs.

The farmers complain about the lack of a market and especially the precariousness of the access roads, which do not allow the flow of the banana production.

The administrator of the district of Manhiça, Cristina Mafumo, says that actions are already underway to improve the conditions of the access road that runs from the national road number one (EN1) to the low production area of the locality of Munguíne.

The locality of Munguíne counts on 14 associations of producers that are currently facing various difficulties, due to the lack of market and access conditions for the flow of their production.
