The Municipality of Maputo will invest 100 million dollars in the project to requalify 20 shantytowns, and is expected to reach 60,000 families.
"We are going to do the infrastructure in all aspects related to access roads, water supply, public lighting, and sanitation, so that people feel that those spaces belong to them," said, this Thursday, the president of the Municipality at the launch of the project, Eneas Comiche.
In a first phase the restructuring will cover the neighborhoods of Luís Cabral, Mavalane 'A' and 'B', Airport 'A' and Unit '7'.
A municipal source explained the reasons why not every neighborhood in the municipality will be covered.
"As you know, about seventy percent of our territory is characterized by informal settlements, and the first twenty neighborhoods have been prioritized," said the municipal official, revealing that as it progresses, the project itself will generate revenue.
In order to facilitate the urban redevelopment process, the Maputo Municipality has distributed Land Use Right documents, of the 20 thousand that it intends to assign.
