The municipality of Maputo and the Malangatana Valente Ngwenya Foundation will sign an agreement for the preservation of the national cultural heritage, with emphasis on the works of the artist Malangatana.

According to "Domingo", the intention was manifested last Friday, when Eneas Comiche, mayor of Maputo, visited Casa e Atelier Malangatana, located in the neighborhood of Aeroporto.

"Over many years I followed the works of Malangatana until the last days of his life. Therefore, being in this gallery is a great honor and privilege to see that his children know how to maintain the one that Agreement to preserve works of Malangatana contribute to make this space habitable, within the redevelopment of our neighborhoods, launching the idea of Malangatana Valente Ngwenya Museum, "said Comiche, quoted by Domingo newspaper.

Mutxini Malangatana, from the Board of Directors of the Malangatana Valente Ngwenya Foundation, says that it is of extreme urgency to preserve the physical work, which is in frank degradation, motivated by the nature of the materials used, namely, wood, paper, and inks, the starting point being its cataloging and documentary treatment of the memory.

"It is also important to preserve the buildings that house the work and to grant municipal or other space to erect the Malangatana Museum, a contributing part in the preservation of the work and legacy. We would like to develop joint projects in the promotion of tourism, preservation of the work and legacy," he added.

Malangatana Valente Ngwenya is a Mozambican visual arts icon and poet, known internationally by his first name Malangatana". He has produced works in various media, from drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, murals, poetry, and music.
