Mozambican women have been put on the back burner when it comes to access to land, which is a violation of the right enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic, according to activists.
This has led to some conflicts, and to solve them many have resorted to taking the law into their own hands, one of the most serious violations of human rights in many communities.
The safe access to land by women is not being taken into account in the current revision of the law, which for the researcher Adriano Nuvunga may perpetuate the violation of a human right foreseen in the Constitution of the Republic.
For Nuvunga this situation has increased conflict and gender-based violence.
"And a large part of these conflicts have been resolved by resorting to justice with their own hands," warns activist Sousa Chele quoted by VOA.
To solve these situations, Dulce Catarina, from the Rural Women's Forum, suggests that the current revision of the Land Law should take women and girls into consideration, looking at their empowerment, through the priority attribution of the Right to Use and Enjoy Land.
