Covid-19: Portugal no longer requires digital certificate or negative test on flights

The Portuguese Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) announced this Friday an order that eliminates the requirement to present a digital certificate or test with a negative result for covid-19 for passengers on flights to Portugal.

"Air carriers are no longer obliged to require passengers, when boarding flights with destination or stopover in mainland Portugal," reads the statement that refers to the joint order No. 8022-D/2022, June 30.

This removes the restrictions on carriers and passengers "applicable in matters of air traffic" as part of the fight against the pandemic, which prevailed until the date the decree was signed.

Order No. 8022-D/2022, published Thursday in the Portuguese Official Gazette, revokes Order No. 4829-A/2022, of April 22, which determined "the measures applicable to air traffic, airports, sea and river borders, and defines the terms and requirements of the respective verification system, as well as the supervision of its operation.

"The epidemiological situation experienced in Portugal following the pandemic of the covid-19 disease has remained relatively stable," reads the latest dispatch, which also explains the fact that at the European Union level "developments in the epidemiological situation no longer justify the adoption of exceptional measures with regard to air traffic, airports and maritime and river borders.

In Portugal, the isolation period for covid-19 has been reduced from seven to five days. According to the rules currently in force, it is mandatory to wear a mask in public transportation, hospitals, vulnerable people, nursing homes, and pharmacies.
