Press points to irreversibility of José Eduardo dos Santos' illness, but his daughter says he is stable

Imprensa aponta irreversibilidade da doença José Eduardo dos Santos, mas a filha diz que está estável

The health condition of the former Angolan president is already the most important news in the country, with conflicting information from the most varied sources, also cited by the foreign press.

In its Afternoon Edition, this Tuesday, 28th, the government-controlled TV Zimbo quoted the Portuguese newspaper Expresso that wrote "it's on its last legs.

The newspaper quoted a source in José Eduardo dos Santos' office.

The daughter of the former Head of State, Tchizé dos Santos reacted by saying that they want to kill her father who is "stable".

"From yesterday to today the situation has worsened considerably and his situation being practically irreversible, we must now be prepared for the worst," adds the same source, indicating that the former President's family will meet today, Wednesday, 29, with doctors at the Teknon Center in Barcelona, where he has been hospitalized since the 23rd.

On the other hand, TV Zimbo and Televisão Pública de Angola revealed that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tete António, should travel "in the next hours" to Barcelona, to follow up on José Eduardo dos Santos' health condition.

António is in Lisbon accompanying João Lourenço at the Conference on Oceans that has been taking place since Monday in the Portuguese capital.

"They are trying to convince the family to turn off the machines," says Tchizé dos Santos

However, contrary to this information, Santos' daughter, Tchizé dos Santos, says in an audio message to which VOA had access that her father is stable.

"The engineer José Eduardo dos Santos is alive, all the organs in his body are working and his condition is stable," continues the former deputy, who points to Dr. João Afonso, appointed by the government to accompany the former president, as the one who is "planting this information in the hands of journalists" to prepare public opinion.

Fall at the root of Santos' worsening situation

Tchizé dos Santos states that "they are trying to convince the family(?) to ask the doctors to turn off the machines" and reiterates that "I, as a daughter, will never allow anyone to turn off machines of a living father, who has a heart beating normally, who has good attention.

"I went there, I was with my father," reinforces Santos' daughter, who accuses João Lourenço of wanting her father's death in order to "give speeches and put up MPLA flags.

Also according to Tchizé dos Santos, her father fell at home about two months ago when he was in the company of his wife, "Ana Paula, and it took them more than 15 minutes to call the ambulance.

"That was what hurt JES the most," concludes Tchizé dos Santos.

VOA has tried to talk to different family members and government personalities, but without success.

Santos Treatment

José Eduardo dos Santos is still hospitalized at the Teknon Center in Barcelona, recognized as one of the best health units in the world, with specialists in the most diverse areas of medicine.

In 2019, the British medical tourism magazine IMTJ named Teknon Hospital as the best international clinic and the American magazine Newsweek put the hospital on its list of the World's Best Clinics 2021.

The health of the former Angolan Head of State has long been a matter of concern to his family, as well as to the political backstage in Luanda.

After leaving power in 2017, José Eduardo dos Santos moved to Barcelona

Last year he returned to Luanda, but at the beginning of March this year he went back to Barcelona allegedly for health reasons.
