Portuguese airports adopt new treatment for disembarking passengers

Aeroportos portugueses adoptam novo tratamento para passageiros em desembarque

Passengers entering Portuguese territory through its air borders will now undergo an electronic check to avoid constraints such as the one that occurred on Sunday due to a plenary meeting of the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF).

The SEF will now have an electronic mechanism for screening passengers, and the goal is to increase the number of service counters, as well as the number of SEF staff, in order to maximize the disembarkation time.

According to a Portuguese government source, cited by CNN Portugal, this change will involve the operation of facial recognition and digital passport identification machines that already exist in Portuguese airports. These will be adapted to separate the cases of passengers who offer no doubts, from those who may have digital identification problems.

In the first electronic screening, the passenger cases that raise doubts are immediately forwarded to a SEF inspection service for clarification of the situation. This avoids the need for this clarification to be made at the in-person service counters, which would delay the pace of verification of passenger entry into the country.
