By order of the Russian prosecutor's office, foreign companies that announced the suspension of their activities in the country due to the Russian military intervention in Ukraine, are now under "strict control".
"Prosecutors will establish strict control over compliance with labor legislation, conditions of labor contracts, payment of wages, fulfillment of contractual obligations to contractors and to the Russian Federation," the attorney general announced in a statement.
This information is advanced by Lusa, which also mentions that Russia "will firmly repress" any attempt by companies that leave the country "to unilaterally not fulfill their obligations.
The prosecutor also promises criminal actions against companies that go down the path of "fictitious or premeditated" bankruptcy.
It is known that hundreds of companies have already announced that they will suspend their activities in Russia, including Coca-Cola, H&M, McDonald's, Ikea, Shell, and BP.
So far it is estimated that the suspension of activities in Russia, could threaten to put thousands of people out of work at a time when Western sanctions that hit the Russian financial system, risk plunging Russia into a deep economic crisis.
