Last week, on February 16, Netflix premiered the first installment of a trilogy entitled "Jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy," which will depict the rise of rapper and entrepreneur Kanye West, or simply, Ye.
The documentary began filming in 2001 by his friend and director of the trilogy, Clarence "Coodie" Simmons. At the start of recording that year Simmons wanted to see how far the young man from Chicago could go. The result was 320 hours of footage chronicling his rise to musical and business stardom, condensed into the seven hours.
The documentary also touches on West's mental health, including the bipolar disorder for which he was hospitalized in 2016, and which received new attention in 2020 when he tried to run for president of the United States.
