The trial sessions on the financial ruin that damaged Mozambique by about 2.2 billion dollars, known as "Case of Hidden Debts", will resume on January 17 of this year, according to an order issued by the judge of the case.
With this, Efigénio Baptista changed the initial date, January 6th, scheduled for the continuation of the hearing of declarants in the case.
The notification does not indicate the reasons for the postponement of the return of the trial, however it is believed that it may be related to pandemic precautions.
The judge ordered the trial sessions to be interrupted on December 13 after cases of covid-19 were detected on the premises of the Maximum Security Correctional Facility "BO" where the hearings are being held.
Judge Efigénio Baptista presented a new schedule for hearings in this case with emphasis on February 17th, when the former President of the Republic, Armando Emílio Guebuza will be heard as a declarant.
But first, on February 11, 2022, the current Minister of Economy and Finance, Adriano Maleiane, will be heard, while Victor Manuel Borges, former Minister of Fisheries, will be heard on February 8, and the 10th of the same month is reserved for the hearing of Alberto Ricardo Mondlane, who served as Minister of the Interior.
