Just watching... Rich countries 'cheat' WHO and vaccines arrive in drops for the poor

The World Health Organization (WHO) launched the Covax Facility initiative with the goal of vaccinating about two billion people worldwide. This purpose had the moral encouragement of the richer countries that promised the WHO enough doses to get there, but it didn't get much more than that. That number was halved, only 907 million immunizers have been distributed so far.

The world's richest countries have donated about 20% of vaccine doses needed to immunize the number of people estimated by the WHO.

The inequality in the application of immunizers is very expressive. On average, 58.4% of the global population has received at least one dose of vaccine. In the poorest countries of the world, this percentage is 8.5%.

So far, the intended purpose seems to be far from being achieved taking into consideration that these countries are now immunizing their populations, including children and adolescents, with the third (booster) dose due to the omicron variant.

The United States, for example, had pledged to donate 587.5 million doses, but only 193.4 million have reached Covax so far. Of this total, only 140.3 million have been delivered to needy nations.

The European Union even announced that 451.5 million doses would be made available. Of this total, 298.3 million doses have arrived in the Covax system and only 57.8 million have been distributed and applied. In the UK, of the 100 million doses promised, only 26.2 million have been delivered to Covax and very few have reached their destination.

And in this we must remember that some vaccines, both from America and Europe, arrived at the destinations already with their expiration date about to expire.

Covax does not only work with donations, as some countries have bought vaccines at lower prices.
