EDM to invest over $300 million in new connections by 2022

Just over 300 million dollars is the amount that the state-owned electricity company Eletricidade de Moçambique (EDM) will invest this year in new electricity connections as part of the president's "energy for all" initiative.

The announcement of the investment for the expansion of the electricity grid was made by the president of the board of directors of the EDM company, Marcelino Alberto.

The program aims to intensify access to electricity for more households and businesses, in fulfillment of Mozambique's universal electrification by 2030.

The project also calls for the expansion of energy access to peri-urban and rural areas throughout the country, to expand the national electricity grid.

It should be noted that last year about three hundred and three thousand families had access to current through the same program.
