LAM resorts to alternative routes to maintain parts imports

The president of Mozambique Airlines (LAM) said today that the restrictions on flights to European, Asian and American countries is leading the operator to seek alternative routes to ensure the maintenance of its fleet.

According to João Pó Jorge, LAM quickly adapted to the "new reality" by seeking "alternative routes, to ensure the supply of parts necessary for the maintenance of our aircraft" because, "we feel the impact of these measures" and Europe is the main source of supply of parts for the carrier.

One of the ways has been to import parts through routes connecting Africa and Europe via Asia, since flights directly from Mozambique are prohibited from entering the European space.

In an attempt to contain the spread of the new covid-19 variant, omicron, several countries have closed borders to foreigners or suspended and restricted international travel to southern Africa.

Mozambique has a cumulative total of 1,941 deaths and 151,652 covid-19 cases, of which 98% recovered and nine hospitalized.
