African startups could raise more than USD 4 billion by 2021

The platform thebigdeal.substack presented data from African start-ups that reveal the possibility of surpassing the four billion dollar mark by the end of this year.

Thebigdeal.substack has produced an illustrative map, as of November 29, 2021, which shows that African start-ups raising funds of more than one hundred thousand dollars could end the year with a total of four billion dollars in funds raised. The map depicts the fundraising operations carried out by Africans tech companies since the beginning of the year 2021.

The four big African countries in the context of technologies, namely, Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt and Kenya, have managed 80% of the total resources committed on the continent since the beginning of the year, with Nigeria having the biggest chunk, about 35%.

Soon after these nations are Senegal (222 million in funds raised) and Tanzania (96 million). For these two countries, a single operation represents more than 90% of the total funds raised this year.

By leveraging some four billion, African tech will attract more investor interest. The only fundraising operation of 200 million by Senegalese fintech Wave last September projected Senegal. The amount made it possible to reach a total of 222 million in November 2021.

The technology sector in Africa still has a long way to go to reach the levels achieved by its competitors in emerging markets, mainly India and Brazil.
