US praises South African transparency for new variant communication

The United States of America (US) revealed this Saturday that it was satisfied about the transparency of the South African authorities for their communication regarding the new variant of the covid-19 virus, Omicron.

According to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the communication of the new variant by the South African authorities is an example to the rest of the world.

Antony Blinken told his South African counterpart, Naledi Pandor, that this public health cooperation between the two countries is an example for the world to follow.

Blinken also praised the "rapid identification" of the new variant of the coronavirus by South African scientists.

Fears of this new variant have led several countries around the world, including in the European Union, to close air traffic from southern African countries, in particular South Africa and Botswana.
