In the celebration, this Monday, November 1st, of the African Youth Day, young Mozambicans criticized the government for the lack of policies aimed at addressing the main problems of young people, including the lack of employment and housing.
In a message on the occasion of the date, Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi says that his government will continue to facilitate access to opportunities for young people so that they can contribute to the collective efforts for the country's development.
However, for the leader of the New Democracy Party, Salomão Muchanga, quoted by VOA, this is nothing more than a simple political discourse, "because what we see is that, as we leave the political discourse, the priorities of youth are diluted during implementation, especially the problem of widespread unemployment, housing, and the participation of young people in decision-making processes.
For his part, journalist Laurindos Macuácua also criticizes the absence of inclusive policies, and believes that this is due to the existence, in the country, of a dominant party, "which adopts policies according to what is its priority.
The President of the Youth Council in Maputo province, Cristiano Cossa, argues that the government should engage in finding solutions to the main problems affecting young people, particularly the lack of employment and housing.
It should be noted that also this Monday, the first national youth conference on Peace and National Unity started in the provincial capital of Zambezia, Quelimane, central Mozambique, which will culminate with the launching of the One Youth, One Flag Campaign, said Quino Caetano, from the National Youth Council.
