A group of men dressed in military uniforms beheaded two people, last Friday, in Macomia district, Cabo Delgado province. The victims were fetching water from a well in the village of Lumumua, in Mucojo, on the coast of that district.
According to local sources cited by VOA, five people had come from the island of Matemo in search of drinking water, three of whom escaped the attacks. At the time, these survivors were carrying the filled containers to the small boat they had docked there.
"Those who were in the fountain were surprised and beheaded" and the bodies abandoned there, and "three others escaped because they managed to escape" said, Ismael Assane, one of the witnesses.
The evildoers are suspected to be associated with the Islamic terrorist group that has terrorized Cabo Delgado since 2017.
A few kilometers from the site of the attack is a position of the Southern African Development Community mission, SAMIM.
Despite the military contingent, residents are surprised by the attacks. "In that place there's actually a big well" where people resort to get supplies of unsanitary water, and "that's right where they were found by the terrorists and beheaded these people," said Alfredo Muandine, another resident of Macomia.
The liberated regions (Macomia, Nangade, Mueda) still record occasional attacks.
