The Village of Palma has light again

The town of Palma, neighboring the billionaire gas projects in northern Mozambique that was attacked by rebel groups, has returned to electric power. The announcement was made by Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), through the statement.

"The first reconnections were made in Palma district, allowing the resumption of economic activities interrupted for more than a year. This was due to the destruction of EDM's infrastructure as a result of insurgent attacks," reads a statement from the public company.

EDM says that Palma is again being fed by a line from the Awasse substation, about 100 kilometers to the southwest, in the district of Mocímboa da Praia, which had also been destroyed by insurgents.

The arrival of energy to Palma comes after, in September, the district headquarters of Mueda and Mocímboa da Praia were connected to the public network.

It is also planned to connect the Muidumbe district, which had been deprived of electricity for more than a year.

EDM explains that for the defined replacement of the electrical system in the north of Cabo Delgado province, a mobilization of financial resources with partners is underway.

It is also known that "the World Bank has set up an emergency financing line to address social interventions in Cabo Delgado, including the replacement of the electricity system," he adds.

It should be noted that the restoration of the power grid in Cabo Delgado began in late August, after the normalization of the public safety situation.
