Reino Unido mobiliza USD 1.2 mil milhões para investimentos no sector de Energia

The UK has already secured 1.2 billion dollars for the energy sector in Mozambique. The amount aims to speed up access to off-grid energy in rural areas.

The money was mobilized by the British private sector operating in the field of renewable energy in Mozambique to support the Government's efforts to provide energy access for all by 2030, which is one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The assurance was given by the British High Commissioner for Mozambique, Nne Nne Iwuji-Eme, speaking on the status of the UK development projects underway in the country.

"Right now it has secured almost 1.2 billion dollars for investment projects in the renewable energy sector here in Mozambique, including in the solar area which has some companies already doing activities," said the British government representative in Mozambique.

The UK is focused on attracting more investment from the UK private sector, which at the moment holds a total investment of over £40 million moved by private companies in the clean energy sector alone, looking at the ongoing energy transition in the world, which points to the need to decarbonize the planet.

The UK is currently implementing the £25 million "Shine" project to promote greater inclusion of people outside the national electricity grid in rural areas, with a target of reaching two million people by 2024, including micro and small businesses.

According to Janvier Ayala, Technical Director of the "Shine" project, the initiative also looks at the financing and technical assistance component for business projects in the energy sector, developed by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), both domestic and foreign, which may receive between two and six million USD, depending on their size and impact.

The package of financing to business initiatives for sustainable off-grid energy solutions is focused on the pro- motion of green economy, solar home systems and improved cooking solutions by 2024, seeking to improve the quality of life for low-income people.

"This project brings dynamic and eficient off-grid solutions and encourages the acceleration of systems in the marketplace so that we can achieve scale. The project, in addition to ensuring the well-being and opportunities of communities, benefits commercial for the private sector," he stressed.

According to the source, the project creates an ecosystem in the energy sector to achieve competitive results, and by March this year the initiative has reached 82,000 solar home systems that are already in operation in remote areas, reaching more than 400,000 people.

The "Shine" program, financed by the UK Government's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and implemented by SNV, the Dutch Development Organization, works in partnership with the Government as an integral part of the whole process, from conception to operationalization.(AIM via News)
