French government decorates Mozambican Defense Minister Cristóvão Chume

Governo francês condecora ministro moçambicano da Defesa Cristóvão Chume

The Mozambican Minister of Defense, Cristóvão Chume, has been decorated with the rank of Commander of the National Order of Merit of the Republic of France, one of the highest distinctions awarded to citizens who have rendered relevant services to France or promoted ties of friendship and cooperation between nations.

The badge, according to a Newswas recently handed over by the French ambassador to Mozambique, Yann Pradeau, who highlighted the Mozambican government's contribution to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of Defense and Security, as well as to deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Established in 1963 by then French President Charles de Gaulle, the National Order of Merit recognizes distinguished individuals in civil or military positions. The rank of Commander is the third highest in the Order's hierarchy and is awarded to personalities with outstanding records of public service or who have made a significant contribution to causes of common interest to France and the world.

On the occasion, Cristóvão Chume said that the award represents collective recognition of the selfless work of the entire National Defense sector.

France is one of Mozambique's main international partners in the defense sector, with joint training, technical capacity building and logistical support, particularly in the fight against terrorism and strengthening maritime security.
