Members of the Renamo party in the Gondola district of Manica this week burned propaganda material containing images and the name of Ossufo Momade, chanting songs showing their discontent with the leadership of the party that replaced the late Afonso Dlakhama..

Supporters say they don't want Momade to remain at the helm of his party and demand that he step down.

The demobilized members of Renamo, led by Brigadier Fernando Mafenhure, burned all the material with Ossufo Momade's face on it.

"Our work hasn't stopped yet. Our main objective, as demobilized, is the removal of Ossufo Momade himself, we don't need it anymore. So, if there are some who support Ossufo Momade (...) it is entirely our responsibility to get directly to where he is, and we are going to attack his residence," said Fernando Mafenhure, quoted in a publication in the newspaper "The Country".

Discontent is also expressed by Renamo's youth league, which says it no longer sees Ossufo Momade as its leader.

"We want this party and we can't abandon it as a youth league. We're here representing the party, but Ossufo Momade is gone. We, as the youth league, are tired".

Recently, demobilized Renamo members set fire to party political material with images of Ossufo Momade in Chimoio, where they also closed down the party's provincial headquarters.

This is not the first public demonstration of discontent over Ossufo's leadership. Protests have taken place in different parts of the country.
