Nyusi guarantees ExxonMobil's return

Nyusi garante retorno da ExxonMobil

The President of the Republic (PR), Filipe Nyusi, has guaranteed the return of the US oil multinational to continue its Liquefied Natural Gas project in Area 4 of the Rovuma basin.

"The oil company has assured us that the question is not whether it will return or not, but when it will return," Nyusi said on Thursday in Washington.

The PR said that the company was aware of developments regarding the armed insurgency in Cabo Delgado. "ExxonMobil recognizes the efforts that are taking place in Mozambique, and I hope that at some point they will resume their activities in the country," said Nyusi, quoted by ClubofMozambique.

ExxonMobil has not yet presented its final investment project, and suspended its activities in Cabo Delgado in 2021, due to the terrorist attacks that have been taking place in the region since 2017.

In another development, Filipe Nysusi said that the world has a positive expectation of Mozambique becoming a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

Elected unanimously by all members of the United Nations last June with 192 votes, Mozambique will replace Kenya as the African representative on January 1st for the 2023-2024 biennium.

"Mozambique has shown its vision of how it wants to work. We may not even meet the expectations of other countries; everyone has their own interests. But we will try to choose the fairest path," he said.
