Since the passage of Cyclone Chido, the city of Pemba, Cabo Delgado province, continues to have restricted access to the water supply, but efforts are being made to restore it.
The service had been interrupted following the destruction, by tropical cyclone chido, of the line that supplies electricity to the water supply systems in that region of the country.
The director of Águas do Norte, in Cabo Delgado, Eugénio Matsinhe, was quoted by Rádio Moçambique as saying that, although only to a limited extent, some neighborhoods are already receiving water.
"We were unsuccessful for seven days here in the city of Pemba, but from the 23rd onwards, the water supply tends to return to normal. We are already supplying according to the schedule we have in the city of Pemba.
We have managed to supply some neighborhoods, although all of them are still unable to receive; for example, the Mieze pumping station, one of the stations was damaged by the cyclone and we are operating with just one pumping station," he said.
