The president of the Board of Directors of Mozambique's National Communications Institute (INCM), Tuaha Mote, said Mozambique will be "the first" among Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP) to launch satellites from the Azores.
According to Tuaha Mote, who was speaking this Thursday in the Azores, Portugal, Mozambique wants to have the privilege, as part of its satellite system project, of "being the first PALOP country to use the satellite launching hub on Santa Maria Island.
Speaking at the International Conference on the Azores Strategy for Space, Mote explained that he is also "national coordinator of the commission created to develop the knowledge and technical capacity to launch the first Mozambican satellite.
"We hope that, with the brotherly relations that Mozambique has with Portugal and with the Regional Government of the Azores, to have this privilege of seeing our request accepted," said the official.
Meanwhile, the president of the (INCM) also spoke of the need to train Mozambican staff in this area.
"We need to create knowledge, national capacity building in the cadres. Nothing better than a sister country that speaks the same language, where the difficulty of absorbing knowledge will be lower," he added.
