The Maputo City Council announced last Sunday (13) that it will resume inspecting and raising awareness among operators of collective and semi-collective passenger transport, as a way of trying to restore the necessary discipline and compliance with the rules and regulations required in this activity.
The action, according to the municipality headed by Razaque Manhique, quoted by the mediaFaxThe aim is to find ways of dealing with scenarios in which public and semi-public transport vehicles circulate without banners indicating their origin and destination, conceal license plates, and pick up and set down passengers outside terminals and stops, among other behaviors considered to be irregular.
The suspension of the routine and common inspection activities carried out by the Maputo Municipal Police was forced by the post-election demonstrations, which, at some point, were aimed at combating corrupt actions and illegal collections carried out by many agents of the Municipal Police and the Traffic Police.
The action starting today will not only be carried out by the municipal authorities. It will involve the participation and collaboration of hauliers, through the involvement of route inspectors.
