HCM gets new sonography and breast ultrasound machine

HCM ganha novo aparelho de sonografia e ecografia mamária

The Maputo Central Hospital (HCM) has just received a new breast sonography and ultrasound machine that will increase its capacity to diagnose and treat breast cancer.

The equipment is a gift from Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH), as part of its social responsibility activities, according to "Notícias".

The delivery comes at a time when health services are facing high demand for breast exams, aggravated by limited technical resources.

"We took advantage of the celebration of women's month to make this offer, which aims to minimize the demand for these services," said Ludovino Bernardo, executive director of ENH, quoted by the newspaper.

The HCM's breast unit, which was set up to treat benign and malignant breast diseases, sees around 200 cases of breast cancer every year.

According to Jotamo Comé, a surgeon, the new device will improve response capacity, especially in terms of reducing waiting times for the diagnosis of breast cancer and other oncological pathologies.

For Comé, the current reality requires additional means, given the growing number of cases.

With this equipment, "patients can have their tests done in a shorter time and start treatment earlier", the source added.
