The Maputo Municipal Council (CMM) has closed 167 establishments found to be operating after 9pm, in violation of the council's rules on opening hours for the period between August 12th and 31st..

"Twenty-four awareness-raising actions were carried out and 167 establishments were closed down for non-compliance with opening hours," said Arsénia Miambo, spokesperson for the Municipal Police, at a press conference on the balance of the activities carried out by the municipality in the area of compliance with Municipal Regulations, yesterday (03) in Maputo.

According to a AIMDespite the awareness campaigns it has been carrying out to reduce the number of cases of non-compliance with municipal ordinances and the imposition of fines, the city council says that cases of disobedience to the rules are still prevalent.

In this regard, the spokeswoman for the Municipal Police also said that 40 complaints had also been received, resulting in 18 fines corresponding to 293,000 meticais.

With regard to public transport, the Municipal Police carried out 108 awareness-raising actions in all municipal districts, at the main passenger terminals and intermediate stops, involving 2,023 drivers.

During the same period, 26 fines were imposed for shortening and diverting routes, amounting to 260,000 meticais, and 724 vehicles were blocked, amounting to 724,000 meticais, for irregular parking.
