Zambezia may get new bridge over Licungo river

Zambézia pode ganhar nova ponte sobre rio Licungo

In Zambezia, the crossing of people and goods on the Licungo River could improve with the construction of a new bridge and a 16-kilometer road linking the region to the N1.

According to "Notícias", the bridge will be 1.8 kilometers long and will be located about five kilometers downstream from the existing structure.

To this end, a tender was launched to select a company to design and build the infrastructure.

The project, which is being carried out by the government, responds to the challenges faced in crossing the current bridge, which has exceeded its useful life and therefore does not offer adequate safety conditions.

The structure of the current bridge has been damaged twice by floods and there are no practical alternatives for trucks to cross the Licungo River.

According to the newspaper, this intervention is part of a partnership signed between the Mozambican government and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in 2023, with the aim of reducing poverty by promoting economic growth in the country.

The agreement includes strengthening the quality and resilience of routes in Zambezia by improving roads and bridges, as well as supporting the maintenance of these infrastructures.
