Since January 12, the Xiquitsi Classical Music Project has been taking part in the 20th Santa Catarina International Music Festival (FEMUSC) in Jaraguá do Sul, Brazil.
At the festival, according to a press release quoted by "O País", the Xiquitsians perform Mozambican and African songs as a way of representing their roots.
In all, 711 works make up the performances scheduled for this edition, in 201 concerts spread over 20 series.
Throughout the festival, the Scar (Sociedade Cultura Artística) will host 127 performances, divided into 13 series, with around nine concerts a day. Another seven series, totaling 74 concerts, will take music to public places in Jaraguá do Sul.
From Xiquitsi, Yara Carvalho, Shaira Chaúque, Carla Cutana, Lourena Uamusse, Alfredo Matine, Moisés Cossa and Altino Munguambe are taking part in the festival.
As well as taking part in various orchestras, Xiquitsi will also join the opera Madama Butterfly.
In this twentieth edition, the festival is paying tribute to Elis Regina's 80th birthday, as a way of celebrating the legacy of one of the greatest interpreters of Brazilian music.
In addition to SCAR, which is the organizer of the event and the home of FEMUSC, the largest classical music festival-school in Latin America will have social concerts in hospitals, Lar das Flores and Jaraguá do Sul Park Shopping.
