The death toll from a car crash yesterday morning in Xai-Xai, Gaza province, has risen to six.
The accident involved a heavy goods vehicle, which at the time was carrying 35 people, all of them believers from a church who were on their way to a baptism ceremony, according to "Notícias."
The figures provided by the spokesman for the Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) in the Gaza Provincial Command, Júlio Nhamussua, indicate that four people were declared dead at the scene of the accident and two at the Xai-Xai Provincial Hospital.
Police say the accident was caused by speeding and overcrowding in the car.
"When the driver reached the Xai-Xai beach descent, he was unable to describe the curve to his right, which caused the car to crash and overturn," said the PRM spokesman.
