Absa Bank Moçambique closes a 13-year cycle of leadership by Luisa Diogo, who is leaving as Chairman of the Board of Directors, and a legacy of recognized professional and human merit.
However, she remains a non-executive director of the Absa Group in South Africa, a position she has held since August 2023.
The successor chosen to chair the Board of Directors of Absa Bank Moçambique is Victor GomesHe has decades of experience and a deep understanding of our market and business environment, unique characteristics to lead the Bank through this next phase of development. Before joining Absa Bank Moçambique, Victor Gomes was Deputy Governor of Banco de Moçambique, a position he held between 2017 and 2022.
Between 2014 and 2017, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique, where he led important infrastructure projects, making a significant contribution to the development of the country's transport sector.
To mark this transition, a special event was held where various moments in Luísa's history at the Bank were recalled and, as a gesture of appreciation and recognition, she was presented with a painting depicting her beloved "Madam Chair", as it was affectionately referred to internally.
The author of the work, Dionésio Matabel, is a young artist and participant in the program Ready for ArtAbsa has provided training for several young artists at national level, with this one standing out for its history and natural talent.
Dr. Gomes expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him and acknowledged the great responsibility of following in Diogo's footsteps, saying: "I am aware of the great responsibility that this position entails, and I am ready and willing to face it with determination and commitment, with everyone's collaboration... Together, we have the ability to achieve great things and continue to strengthen our position as a benchmark in the Mozambican market."
The new Chairman of the Board of Directors takes office immediately.
