MP and senior member of the Renamo party, Venâncio Mondlane, yesterday filed an injunction with the Maputo City Court to force Ossufo Momade to comply with the statutes and set the date for the Renamo Congress.
"The Renamo party statutes are clear and evident. The obligation, the competence to set the date of the Congress rests with the President of Renamo. And since the date of the Congress has not been set, it means that if there are reasons that have not been made known to the members, we are facing a situation of a serious statutory irregularity," said Mondlane.
"Not knowing the reasons for not scheduling the Congress, I have submitted a precautionary measure here so that the justice organs notify the President of the Renamo party to comply with the statutes in full, that is, to be obliged to set the date for the Congress," added the MP.
During a press conference with journalists yesterday afternoon in Maputo, Mondlane also denounced the dismissal of several Renamo party delegates and members, allegedly because they were not aligned with the party.
"If the Party claims to be the founder of democracy in Mozambique, then it must function as a democratic institution, where the rights and duties of each member must be respected," he said during the conference.
It should be noted that Ossufo Momade's term as leader of the Renamo party ended on January 17.
