Venâncio Mondlane, leader of the demonstrations à On a national scale, in protest at the election results, it has declared that it may abandon the plan to take office on January 15 if acts of vandalism, looting and destruction of infrastructure persist.
In another live broadcast on his Facebook account, Mondlane questioned how it would be possible to take office in the midst of rubble and chaos, stressing that his fight is to defend the public good and protect stores and businesses.
"I'm not going to take office when we're destroying everything. How will I get to the inauguration site? Is it to take office in the middle of rubble? No. You know what our focus is," said Mondlane.
Mondlane called on the population to defend the stores, projects and companies, stressing that there is a need to preserve the public good and criticized the actions of the Constitutional Council.
He also asked the real protesters to be more vigilant so that the cause is not tarnished and distorted.
"We're not here to destroy our neighbors' stores and businesses. We want change in the country, but without attacking those who are also suffering," he said.
He once again called on demonstrators to take part in a symbolic act of protest at 1pm today, singing the national anthem for 15 minutes in every neighborhood and district in the country. He emphasized that this would be a way of demonstrating that the protests are not aimed at vandalism.
