The relief of the restrictions decreed for the prevention of Covid-19 is reviving tourism in KaNyaka, the island part of Maputo city. According to the councilman of that municipal district, Alexendre Muianga, this month the demand for tourist resorts increased significantly compared to January and February.
To the newspaper Notícias, that responsible points out that most of the guesthouses are almost full of national and foreign tourists, which is satisfactory for the district's economy, which depends basically on tourism.
Alexandre Muianga also said that despite the relaxation of restrictions that boosts demand for services and consequently contributes to the opening of jobs, the authorities are monitoring compliance with Covid-19's prevention measures to avoid contagion.
"We have observed the sanitary protocol, from the temperature measurement to the arrival of the establishments, we encourage visitors to comply with the recommended physical distance and restaurant and bar owners not to exceed the opening hours," he said.
Also to leverage the local economy, Muianga indicated that KaNyaka intends to create the Community Fishing Council, which will regulate the activity.
"We have noticed that many fishermen go out to sea but have not been able to catch fish in satisfactory quantity and quality, so we believe that the creation of this body can help leverage fishing, which once contributed to the economy," he said.
