Three hundred and eighty-nine people lost their lives to tuberculosis last year, according to "Notícias". In the same period, 14,063 cases of the disease were reported, more than half of which were confirmed to be pulmonary tuberculosis.
However, compared to 2022 and 2023, the health sector indicates that there has been a slight increase in cases.
The data was revealed a few days ago in the city of Nampula by the provincial director of Health, Fernando Mitano, as part of the celebration of World Tuberculosis Day".
Quoted by Noticias, Mitano called for the involvement of all players in the fight against tuberculosis, in order to reduce the numbers, which are considered high.
He pointed out that tuberculosis treatment is free and that there are qualified technicians to detect the disease, as well as enough medication to treat it, which lasts six months.
