Trump promises to end border invasions

Trump promete acabar com invasão das fronteiras

Donald Trump was sworn in as President of the United States yesterday with promises to put an end to the "invasion" of illegal immigration, one of his main campaign themes, at a rally in Washington on the eve of his inauguration.

"We're going to stop the invasion of our borders," Trump said, quoted by the international press, before thousands of supporters gathered at the so-called "Victory Rally".

Trump, who becomes the 47th President of the United States, has promised to issue a hundred executive orders on his first day in the White House.

"I will act with unprecedented speed and force," declared the 78-year-old Republican billionaire to an enthusiastic crowd in the stands of Capital One Arena, a 20,000-seat arena where basketball games, ice hockey and concerts are usually held in downtown Washington.

Returning to the themes of his campaign speeches that helped him get elected on November 5, 2024, against the Democratic candidate, outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris, in a highly polarized country, Donald Trump promised to "solve all the crises facing the country".

He also promised to boost oil production and curb the "woke ideologies of the radical left".

Before being sworn in for his second presidential term (2025-2029), the former real estate developer and businessman, who is barred by the Constitution from running again after two terms, even if they are not consecutive, wanted one last taste of the high-voltage atmosphere of his victorious campaign.

According to the US daily "Wall Street Journal", Trump will declare a state of emergency on the border with Mexico and will also abolish some programs aimed at promoting diversity in the federal government and lift restrictions on oil exploration.

Another expected measure: pardons for the convicts who stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, in an attempt to prevent the certification of the presidential victory of the Democratic candidate, Joe Biden, in the 2020 elections.
