The provinces of Cabo Delgado, Zambézia and Sofala may be free of the measles outbreak, after two months without any new episodes of the disease, health authorities have said.
The trend is the result of the implementation of actions to control the transmission of the disease in communities, with an emphasis on raising awareness about ways of preventing it, the health document indicates.
The measures include greater vigilance in all the provinces, with a focus on Nampula and Niassa, which continue to register positive cases of the disease.
Data on the country's epidemiological situation indicates that since the outbreak began in July last year, 31 people have died from complications of the disease, out of 1191 diagnosed cases.
The document also states that in the last few days eight cases have been reported in the districts of Monapo, Angoche and Nampula, the province of the same name, bringing the cumulative total to 351, while Niassa maintains the figure of 428.
As this is an acute viral infectious disease, transmitted by direct contact through droplets of saliva from infected people when they cough or exhale, the Ministry of Health urges anyone with symptoms such as fever or rash to go immediately to the nearest health facility. (Source: News)
