The residents of the community of Tadavala, on the border between the districts of Macomia and Muidumbe, in the province of Cabo Delgado, reported, today, to the local force of former combatants, the existence of three lifeless bodies, two men and a woman, found on the banks of the Messalo river.
They discovered the bodies because of the smell of decomposition that inhabited the environment, without, however, being able to ascertain their identities, according to Correio da Manhã, which cites a source from the community.
"We can't recognize the faces, but they are not people from this community," he explained,
A member of the local force who made his way to the spot where the bodies were found said that "one of these men had signs of having lost his life with a blow to the neck part."
Almost a week ago, on the other bank of the Messalo River, an unknown group beheaded an elderly man, an episode that is suspected to be the work of rebel groups roaming the region, fleeing the military operations that have been carried out by government forces.
The interior of Macomia district has been the scene of several confrontations during the last few months, as part of operations by the Mozambican army, supported by Rwanda and the South African Development Community (SADC), which culminated with the assault on the main rebel base in that district: the Catupa base.
