The company behind TikTok has announced that it has launched a new feature to limit the amount of time teenagers spend on the short-form video app.
With this update, users under the age of 18 will have an "automatically set" daily usage limit of just 60 minutes. However, it will be possible to exceed this limit by entering a specific code.
"If this limit is exceeded, an access code will be requested so that it is possible to continue watching the videos: in order to extend the viewing time, an active decision will therefore be required," reads the official TikTok statement quoted by Lusa.
This daily usage limit can be set by the teenagers' guardians, and it is even possible to set a limit for each day of the week.
