Terrorists in Cabo Delgado have connections with groups in DRC

The Minister of Defense, Cristóvão Chume, said this Monday that the terrorist groups operating in Cabo Delgado have connections with other terrorist groups operating in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

For this reason, according to the minister, the evil-doers in Cabo Delgado are among the most dangerous terrorists in the entire African continent. And they take advantage of security weaknesses to attack communities and cause terror.

The statements were made at the first meeting that brought together defense men and academics to address terrorist actions from a scientific perspective. And, for the well-being of the nation, Cristóvão Chume called for open study and discussion.

Among the main issues is the incomprehension that a small group of young people has become a symbol of insurgency in Mozambique, and one of the most aggressive in Africa, after attacking a police station.

To this and another question, Chume said that academia has not yet been able to provide a scientific answer.

"In a timid way, the national academy started a discussion of the causes without having managed, until today, to pass on to the national community the objective reason for the phenomenon," said Chume quoted by "O País".

Chume wants the Armando Guebuza Higher Institute for Studies and Defense to use science to dispel doubts about the origin of the phenomenon. The Minister acknowledged that the group took advantage of security weaknesses in the country.
