Syrah Resources has received reports of a rebel attack on a mine project near Ancuabe, about 200 km from Balama in Cabo Delgado province, northern Mozambique.
This recent attack, following another incident in the same area in recent days, are the first confirmed attacks in Ancuabe district.
Prior to these incidents there had been a significant improvement in the overall security situation in Cabo Delgado. The incidents occurred between 30km and 40km of the N1 road, the main transport route between Balama, Nacala and Pemba.
Syrah and its logistics service provider have taken the precautionary measure of suspending all personnel and logistics movements through the route section until more information is available.
Balama's mining and processing operations are currently unaffected. Syrah's top priority is the health and safety of employees and contractors.
Consequently, the Company maintains close contact with the Government, security authorities and other stakeholders to monitor the situation and assess the safe resumption of transport operations.
Syrah will continue to update the market on the security situation and any impacts on Balama operations.
