Post-election tension: SADC says it is concerned about loss of life and calls for dialogue between the parties

Tensão pós-eleitoral: SADC diz estar preocupada com perdas de vida e  apela ao diálogo entre as partes

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is calling for dialogue to end the post-election tension in Mozambique, which has been going on for more than two months in protest at the election results.

In a statement to which MZNews has had access, SADC President Samia Suluhu says that the region is deeply concerned about the continued loss of life, occurrences of bodily injury, as well as the destruction of public and private infrastructure.

It reaffirms its willingness to help, through appropriate mechanisms, to facilitate the search for a peaceful resolution to the existing challenges.

"We therefore call for an immediate cessation of all hostilities, reiterating the importance of prioritizing the well-being and livelihoods of the Mozambican people," the document reads.

The President of SADC says that the post-election conflict in Mozambique has brought economic challenges in the country, as well as disrupting cross-border trade, impeding the movement of people and goods.
