Sony and Honda team up to make electric cars

The technology company Sony and the Japanese car manufacturer Honda announced today that they intend to create a joint company dedicated to the production of electric cars.

The new company that should emerge later this year will also develop and sell "high-value" batteries and provide mobility services. The two groups want to launch the first cars as early as 2025.

A joint statement says that Honda will be responsible for producing the first model at the brand's factories, while Sony will develop a platform dedicated to mobility services.

"Sony wants to develop the vision of making the mobility space an emotional space," Sony President Kenichiro Yoshida said in the statement.

And, in turn, Honda's president, Toshihiro Mibe, emphasized the fact that the companies' areas of expertise are different and, precisely for this reason, believe in the alliance, because, "by combining the strengths of our two companies, it will offer great possibilities for the future of mobility."

Last year, the Japanese car company announced as a goal to reach 100% sales of electric vehicles worldwide by 2040, in addition to huge investments in research and development over six years.
