A Pakistani national was arrested last Tuesday (05) by the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) accused of leading a group of kidnappers in Sofala province.
According to Sernic spokesman in Sofala, Alfeu Sitoe, the arrest occurred two days after he allegedly ordered a kidnapping in the city of Beira.

According to the authorities, the Pakistani hired two people on Saturday to kidnap a businessman in Beira, but the plan was foiled by the police.
"When they arrived on the scene, in an attempt to carry out the crime, they discovered that the police were present," and so they "fled," the spokesman said, adding that the "perpetrators of the kidnapping came from Maputo.
Some Mozambican cities, mainly Maputo, have again been plagued since 2020 by a wave of kidnappings, targeting mainly businessmen or their family members.
