The Secretary of State for Sports congratulated, this Thursday, the National Women's Basketball Team for the fifth place in Afrobasket 2021, held in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Gilberto Mendes was proud of the delegation that was participating in the championship and said that with more work the result could be better.

"We all know everything that was behind your preparation, it was not what we would have wished, but you showed guts," said Gilberto Mendes.

It is recalled that the Mozambican team met at the last minute and only held four training sessions before heading to Cameroon. From a group of 12 teams, the Mozambicans finished fifth.

The National Selector, Nazir Salé, said that his team had sacrificed to honor the country.

"The fifth place goes in line with what we aimed for, especially because of the difficulties we had," said the national selector.
