Measles claimed more than 30 lives in the last six months

At least 31 people died of measles, out of a total of 1,191 cases diagnosed positive in the Central and Northern regions, between July 9 and January 28.

The information was provided this Friday (31), in Maputo, by the deputy national director of Public Health at the Ministry of Health (MISAU), Aleny Couto

"Nampula, at the moment, is the only province that still has an active outbreak, but, nevertheless, in the last 24 hours, we have not notified any measles cases and Nampula, at the moment, has not registered any new deaths for 14 days," said Couto, quoted in an AIM publication.

The cases were reported in the provinces of Cabo Delgado, Niassa and Nampula in the north, Zambézia and Sofala in the center.

During this period, 31 deaths were reported in the provinces mentioned here, of which 27 occurred in the community and are distributed across the provinces of Cabo Delgado, where there were 17 cases, Nampula 11 cases and Niassa three.
