The council of the city of Mariupol, in southern Ukraine, accuses Russia of bombing a maternity hospital on Wednesday, the video of which was circulated on social networks.
"The destruction is enormous. The medical center building where the children were treated recently is completely destroyed," the council said, without advancing the number of victims because "it was still to be counted."
Donetsk region governor Pavlo Kyrylenko said that this airstrike destroyed "a maternity ward in the city center, a children's ward and an internal medicine department."
Images released on the official Twitter profile of Ukraine's Foreign Ministry show the front of a building with blast marks.
The institution accused Russia of "bombing a children's hospital and a maternity hospital in Mariupol.
Hours before the bombing condemned by the Ukrainian government, Russian International Relations Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused Ukraine of establishing combat positions in the hospital region and other affected areas.
In a statement, Zakharova said that "in Mariupol, Ukrainian national battalions are driving staff and patients out of the maternity ward, and have equipped fighting positions."
The Russian spokeswoman further stated that there were "several videos refuting the Ukrainian false versions, confirming that Kiev's crimes against its own citizens are abundant and in the public domain."
